WHAT IS THIS survey?
When your job is physically demanding, having an injury isn't just a pain... it's a threat to your ability to support yourself. Yet too often, workers must choose between taking unpaid time off to get care that they can't afford, or ignoring the problem and hoping it goes away. Things like long wait times for specialists, referral requirements and difficulty fitting care around work schedules complicate matters further.
Every year, health insurance premiums rises. Employers who offer health insurance to their workers can't afford to absorb these increasing costs. But employees are understandably reluctant to pay more for health insurance when they either can't get time off to use the insurance, or discover the insurance doesn't cover the doctors or therapists they need to treat their most pressing problems. For self-employed workers and contractors with physically demanding jobs, the cost of individual health insurance is often too high to justify - especially if the services they're most likely to need won't be covered.
The purpose of this survey is to learn more about people who work tough physical jobs, and what happens if/when they get musculoskeletal problems -- injuries/issues involving the spine, muscles, bones, joints and nerves. Currently, many don't get medical help for these problems, even when they threaten their ability to work. Your answers to this survey will help us figure out why.
